The
Association of Psychologists in Newfoundland Labrador (APNL) invite
you to attend a one day workshop, An Introduction to Positive
Discipline, Monday, May 17, 2010, 9am - 4pm, at
the St. John's Health Sciences Centre.
For
20 years Dr. Joan Durrant has been conducting research on the psychological,
cultural, legal and human rights dimensions of physical punishment of
children in Canada, and she is the co-author of the Canadian
Joint Statement on Physical Punishment of Children and Youth. For

Community Services Council announces the Campaign 2000 Report Card on Poverty to be released with screening of "Four Feet Up", a documentary portraying child poverty in Canada. For more information see CSC's Nov 19th newsletter.
"Are current Canadian Parental Leave Provisions adequate?", a panel presentation and public forum on parental leave, will be held October 20th, 2009. Join us for a discussion of how parental leave policies affect the parent child relationship during this period and the impact on the mental health of our children. To learn more, click here.
"Rethinking
Interventions with Vulnerable Children and Families" will
be the subject of guest speaker Kenneth Barter at the FRP Canada
Annual General Meeting. Dr. Barter is a Professor with
the School of Social Work, Memorial University of Newfoundland, and is
known as a strong advocate for the protection of children and challenges
legislative systems with the mandate to protect children to think differently
in service delivery.
The
venue for the general meeting will be in the "After Cabin" of the Battery
Hotel, 100 Signal Hill Road, St John's, Friday, October 16, 4-5pm. For
